BRIAN – Track 3
“Brian” will be our third single, after the release of Static. There’s a lot of curiosity surrounding our song “Brian.” Who is he? Brian is my friend, an eccentric old man who wandered into my life unexpectedly and brought magic along with him. I’ve encountered kindred souls, but none quite like Brian. He’s so far out. Brian can’t hear very well, so he wears headphones and holds a small microphone to my mouth every time we speak. It feeds back with high pitched shrieks and he doesn’t notice. He never visits without a gift, usually crystals and silver coins representing Catholic Saints of protection. I call him my “forceful savior.”
When I wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies, it was effortless, like a stream of consciousness: “Brian finds me, brings me stars captured in glass.” The music is dynamic, shifting between a controlled frenzy and somber ballad. I had fun recording vocals, I wrote to showcase my range and harmonies. Our producer Jim Rota is the vocalist and guitarist for Fireball Ministry – he sang lower harmonies on the chorus. “Brian” is a favorite of both Jim and Paul Fig (producer/engineer), this one was infectious during recording, all of us waking up and going to bed with it in our heads.
“Brian” boasts tasteful guitars from Eli Santana and Blake Meahl, with a hint of black metal. I’m so impressed with their playing on Static. This song possesses an intangible darkness that Huntress has honed and owned from our first recordings. Yet it’s unlike anything we’re ever written…the natural evolution of the band is captured within “Brian.”
Fun fact: Eli Santana wrote the music for “Brian” and the working title was “Gargamel Gibson!”
Brian
Brian finds me
Brings me stars captured in glass
Coins of silver
Forceful savior
Saint of protection for later
Awkward wizard
Your visions
Zap messages through your hair
Keep me in your prayers
Brian
Obsession leads you to me
I want you to hang around
Something lost has been found
Watching colors
Float in the corners of the past
Counting memories
There’s a sadness
I feel deep within your madness
We share the torture
Your visions
Zap messages through your hair
Keep me in your prayers
Brian
Obsession leads you to me
I want you to hang around
Something lost has been found
You appear and never warn
Like a strange and golden storm
Pockets filled with gifts for me
All the crystals from Brazil
Birds of prey on windows sills
In the places I see in my dreams
Your visions
Zap messages through your hair
Keep me in your prayers
Brian
Obsession leads you to me
I want you to hang around
Something lost has been found
Brian…obsession leads you to me
Brian…don’t you ever leave me
