FLESH – Track 2
“Flesh” is the first single off our new album Static, and the first lyric video Huntress has ever done. It was released July 31st, 2015. It’s catchy and hard rock, it’s lusty and bloody, a blackened-party metal make out song. When my bandmates brought me the killer composition, I wrote the lyrics as my storyline unfolded like bizarre film noir. A female serial killer who would transform into a demonic seamstress, preying upon women. She desires their flesh for fashion. Once again, I’ve collaborated with the immensely talented Vance Kelly to bring the story of “Flesh” to life. Our telepathic artistic connection has created a twisted romantic lyric video for a summer of lust.
I wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies to “Flesh” in our tour van, outside of the Huntress rehearsal studio in North Hollywood. Our producers Paul Fig and Jim Rota were having a pre-production session with the boys. It was one of the last songs I had to write, but I couldn’t quite grasp it. I was under the gun and sometimes that pressure makes my songwriting better. I’d been watching a lot of Dexter and it suddenly came to me…this song was about a female serial killer who pervs out on the flesh of her victims. Cool! I wrote the vocal melodies and lyrics in 20 minutes.
The vocal approach on this song was guided by Paul and Jim, who really wanted “Flesh” to be a great single. I used a cleaner tone on the choruses with lots of harmonies. Originally the lyrics in the chorus were: “Hunt you like a wild beast, Turn you out for my release…fucking on your Flesh.” Jim made me change those lyrics (begrudgingly) to: Hunt you like a wild beast, Turn you out for my release…Craving your Flesh.” Radio friendly, baby!
Fun fact: Eli Santana wrote the music for “Flesh” and the working title was “Terminus.”
Flesh
Nightmares don’t trouble me
I wear them on my sleeve
Like a wet stain
Red skies in the morning
Signals my final warning
Predicting your pain
Hey, I’m not the same
I’m in lust
Feel me bust
Hunt you like a wild beast
Turn you out for my release
Craving your Flesh
What I’d give to watch you cry
Sister, I ain’t gonna lie
Unless it’s on your Flesh
Watching you walk alone
I call you on the phone
Heavy breathing
Night covers me
It’s all clear
I want your fear
Hunt you like a wild beast
Turn you out for my release
Craving your Flesh
What I’d give to watch you cry
Sister, I ain’t gonna lie
Unless it’s on your Flesh
You on my shelf
I can’t control myself
Fall to your knees
Crawl to me
What makes me want you bad?
Well, I can’t stop craving your Flesh
Hunt you like a wild beast
Turn you out for my release
I’m coming
Craving your Flesh
What I’d give to watch you cry
Sister, I ain’t gonna lie
Unless it’s on your Flesh
Your Flesh
On your Flesh
