VULTURES CAN WAIT – 7″ Vinyl Bonus

As we conclude the final post for my 12 Days of Static journey, I leave you with “Vultures Can Wait” — an exclusive bonus track available only on 7″ vinyl.

I began writing this song in 2013, it was always in my mind, but hadn’t solidified until Huntress was on tour in Spain with Amon Amarth in February 2015. There are dark times where many of us contemplate suicide. I’ve been to the swamps of sadness, I’ve seen the scavengers awaiting my demise. But through the darkness, I could always see the glimmer of light, a reminder that I should stay and fight to live. The Vultures Can Wait.

Traveling through Spain, I began reading Carlos Castaneda’s book, A Separate Reality. I’ve always been fascinated with Spanish and Mexican mysticism. The imagery filled the blank verses and the song was given a heartbeat. I dedicate “Vultures Can Wait” to my Creatures, especially the ones who struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. You are not alone.

Vultures Can Wait

The desert knows my Diablo and the sorcery I hide
I speak in tongues, sand fills my lungs tonight the spirit rides

Walking through diamond doors to meet the dead, feed your head

Vultures Can Wait
Vultures Can Wait

Horizon breaks, follow the snakes they will lead you to the smoke
The Devil’s Weed, she makes you eat her pride until you choke

Facing the fear behind the veils of fate, make them wait

Vultures Can Wait
Vultures Can Wait

Do you want to live forever?

BLACK TONGUE – Track 11 (bonus)

It’s no secret, my love for Jägermeister runs deep. In fact, it’s the only alcoholic beverage I’ll drink. When Huntress began touring in 2012, I wanted badly to be part of Jäger Music. Fortunately for me, Jäger Music wanted to be part of Huntress too! So, we partnered up and have been in the family for nearly four years.

I wanted to write a song so I could have an excuse to do a shot of Jäger on stage. Seriously. I get only one shot per show, so I make it count! I’m kept on a very short leash while on tour. Anyhow, I got Blake Meahl on board. The boys and I call him the “baby giraffe.” He’s 6’4″ and all legs. Giraffes have black tongues, we were stoned, I needed a title for my Jäger tribute song and Blake said “Black Tongue.” Perfect!

This is one of my favorite songs to perform, not only for the perk of doing a Jäger shot on stage, but because the audience sings it with me. It gets ya fired up. We made “Black Tongue” a bonus track cuz it stands out on the album; it’s a dark, heavy, fast paced anthem.

“Seek out the Master Hunter, he’s never hard to find
Hunt down the dark elixir and give away your mind”

Black Tongue (Bonus)

Tear it up, yeah, unleash the night
You gotta lose the light, you gotta give away your sin

Set it off, yeah, run it down
Ignite this lonely town, the ashes riding on the wind

Seek out the Master Hunter, he’s never hard to find
Hunt down the dark elixir and give away your mind

Black Tongue
Show me your darker side
Black Tongue, Black Tongue, Black Tongue

Black it out, soul suicide
Live fast, but don’t you hide, the darkness never says you sinned

Seek out the Master Hunter, he’s never hard to find
Hunt down the dark elixir and give away your mind

Black Tongue
Show me your darker side
Black Tongue, Black Tongue, Black Tongue

Hunting for black fire
Burning up the light

Seek out the Master Hunter, he’s never hard to find
Hunt down the dark elixir and give away your mind

Black Tongue
Black Tongue, Black Tongue, Black Tongue

Black Tongue
Show me your darker side
Black Tongue, Black Tongue, Black Tongue

12 Days of Static: Fire In My Heart – Track 10!

FIRE IN MY HEART – Track 10

* This post is a bit delayed, there was a “fire in my bong” last night.

The inspiration for “Fire In My Heart” belongs to one man: Glenn Danzig. I was a teenage witch with a crush on all things Danzig. My obsession began with the Misfits, crept into Samhain and went full-blown psycho with the release of Danzig, Danzig II: Lucifuge & Danzig III: How The Gods Kill. His music videos featuring hot nefarious sluts blew my mind, I wanted to look and move like them. I wanted to be one of Danzig’s black witches. I felt the same way all boys did watching “She Rides.” Except I had a clitboner.

Huntress was on a plane flying to Download Festival in 2014 when I wrote the chorus. Once again, I was in the rest room songwriting (the same way I started writing “Static”). Afterwards, I ran over to Blake Meahl’s seat with a recording that I had sang into my phone.

The music for “Fire In My Heart” was made for dancin’. I thought about what I’d like to hear as a hormonal witchcraft-crazed 17 year old girl; a song that would be ideal for hairbrush microphone bedroom shows. This is that song.

Fun fact: Huntress toured with Danzig on his 25th Anniversary tour in 2013. I didn’t fan girl him. But I did watch every show from the wings. And one night, he looked at me from stage, pointed and said “You.” I did the over the shoulder “Who? Me?” My band mates pushed me out on stage and  Glenn asked me to sing “Skulls” with him. I did. I can die now. The end.

“Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart”

Fire In My Heart

Danger runs all through my blood, oh yeah
Trouble owns all my bones, yeah, got it bad
Ooo, can’t you see the fire lives in me?

Gonna mainline rage into your veins
I’m gonna give you a lethal dose of pain

Come on and get it
Scorching the night
Ooo, you wanna get lit? Yeah!

Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart

Be forewarned of the blaze that lays with me
Raising hell to get off, yeah, I’m in heat
Ooo, can’t you feel the fire deep in me?

Overdose with ghost who haunts your dreams
Suffocate in the warmth of eternity

Walk with the witches
Blazing the night
Ooo, smoke out those bitches, yeah!

Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart

Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart

Burn, burn, burn, burn
Oh yeah, Fire!

Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart

Burning for your black art
In flames forever higher
I’ve got the Fire In My Heart

Fire, Fire, Fire In My Heart
Fire, Fire, Fire In My Heart

12 Days of Static: Noble Savage – Track 9

NOBLE SAVAGE – Track 9

I first read the phrase “Noble Savage” in The Conquest of Grananda, a play by John Dryen performed in 1670. Yep, I’m a geek. It’s believed that Dryden picked up the expression from writings about Canada by French explorer Marc Lescarbot in 1609. It stands for one who is brave and peaceful, something I strive to be every day (however, the “savage” is strong with me). I felt connected to that phrase, my bloodline is tied to the Huron Indians, now called Wyandot. Native to Lake Ontario, Canada. My mother’s maiden name is Huron, and her family is French Canadian.

I spent my childhood surrounded by nature. I wanted to write a song that would be a tribute to my heritage, true freedom and the vast wilderness of North America’s past. I chose to sing half of the chorus on “Noble Savage” in French. Le Bon Sauvage!

Eli Santana shreds guitars on “Noble Savage” and our drummer Tyler Meahl’s performance is my favorite on the album. There’s something really special about this song, it captured the spirit of war, peace and God. You can feel that spirit within the music. “I am free, my heart beats for victory.”

Noble Savage

I am free
As free as nature’s first made man

There are no laws
Where the fierce and untamed ran

I see God in the clouds, hear him in the wind

Noble Savage
Defender of the wildlands
Weapons in hand

Le Bon Sauvage
Défenseur des terres sauvages
Armes à la main

I am free
My heart beats for victory

True ’til my death
Protecting all who run with me

I see God in the clouds, hear him in the wind

Noble Savage
Defender of the wildlands
Weapons in hand

Le Bon Sauvage
Défenseur des terres sauvages
Armes à la main

I live alone for my desires
In the forest, in the streams
I live alone for my desires, free

I see God in the clouds, hear him in the wind

Noble Savage
Defender of the wildlands
Weapons in hand

Le Bon Sauvage
Défenseur des terres sauvages
Armes à la main

I live alone for my desires
In the forest, in the streams
I live alone for my desire, free

HARSH TIMES ON PLANET STOKED – Track 8

The title “Harsh Times On Planet Stoked” came from Blake Meahl. He explained that songwriting was like banging his head against the wall after touring, and being home became a bummer. Typically Blake is happy hesher, but during the summer of 2014, the pressure to finish writing our record wore him down.

I took his title and his music, wrote vocal melodies and lyrics that would capture the bummer summer. I took it further and set the scene on Planet Stoked, a world where humanity lost its way with indulgence and greed. Not unlike Planet Earth. “I feel extinction and exhaust, fueling holocaust.” The song is filled with memories of how it used to be, and how it got to be so bad…with the realization that there’s no one else to blame but ourselves.

“Harsh Times” is one of my favorite songs to perform live. It’s dramatic and a vocal party, where I launch through octaves, melodic singing and fry screams. Blake’s solo is so definitive and intangibly dark. This is a song that should be watched live on stage, the band really takes it to the next level.

“I’m done with crying in my sleep, dying in my dreams.” Harsh Times have finally left Planet Stoked.

Harsh Times On Planet Stoked

Harsh times are coming to Planet Stoked
We lost our orbit when we toked the devil’s smoke

Acid is falling, raining bad trips
Melting our memories with nothing to transmit

I’m done with crying in my sleep
Dying in my dreams

Phantom limbs, solar winds
Blistering the sky
Dimensions open wide

Cosmic war, nuclear
Nothing is the same
We are the ones to blame

Doom is ruling, deadly vaccine
There is no mercy when the master’s a machine

We lost our purpose, buried in bones
Burning with the fever of the sickly throne

I feel extinction and exhaust
Fueling holocaust

Phantom limbs, solar winds
Blistering the sky
Dimensions open wide

Cosmic war, nuclear
Nothing is the same
We are the ones to blame

We used to be entwined in fate
‘Til we swallowed black clouds
And birthed out storms of hate

Harsh Times On Planet Stoked

I’m done with crying in my sleep
Dying in my dreams

Phantom limbs, solar winds
Blistering the sky
Dimensions open wide

Cosmic war, nuclear
Nothing is the same
Nothing is the same

Phantom limbs, solar winds
Blistering the sky
Dimensions open wide

Cosmic war, nuclear
Nothing is the same
We are the ones to blame

STATIC – Track 7

“Static” is the title track, it was the very first song idea I had for Album 3. Huntress was touring with Lamb of God in 2013 when we stopped at a gas station in Pennsylvania. I went into the bathroom. It was deadly quiet, but I could hear a faint electrical hum, like white noise. And then it happened: I could see the story unfold so clearly. We begin in New York City, people are relaxing in their apartments after work, watching TV while their kids keep busy on computers. The faint electrical hum starts, just like the sound I heard walking into the bathroom. At first, you don’t notice really. But soon it grows, the hum becomes an annoyance, your head starts to throb. You go to bed, but “White noise is all you hear when you close your eyes to sleep. Dreams of electric beasts, harsh tweak.” You wake up, but you can’t get dressed. You walk to the TV and see her, the Static Monster. Her sharp nails, her long cruel fingers blackened by the sorrow of souls she has stolen. Her teeth are rotten, her skin is sickly green. With her arms out stretched, she pulls you close and “Crawls inside your ears, feeding on your mind.” Repeatedly, she comes for you, for all of you. “Can’t get no help, no fix, drugs no longer work.” Days and nights blur until you are no longer you. You’ve become a Zombie of the Noise.

Fun fact: Vance Kelly created the cover art for Static after seeing a photo of me taken by Tim Tronckoe. I was  photographed before a show at Poppodium 013 in the Netherlands. Look familiar?

Huntress-Static-Cover-Art

Static

Strange things are happening
Confused by the unknown
Like science fiction in a dead zone

Machine disease
Low frequencies
You cannot hide
It crawls inside your ears
Feeding on your mind

White noise is all you hear
When you close your eyes to sleep
Dreams of electric beasts, harsh tweak

Electro fields
Magnetic shields
Shock therapy
The sirens scream, panic
Takes over the streets

Static the sickness no one ever survives

Brain dead humanity
Zombies of the noise
Blank generation destroys

Can’t get no help, no fix
Drugs no longer work
Lost in a maze where life and death blur

Machine disease
Low frequencies
You cannot hide
It crawls inside your ears
Draining all your mind

Static the sickness no one ever survives
Evil within electric
Static comes for your lives

FOUR BLOOD MOONS – Track 6

The Blood Moon Prophecy is so intriguing, I had to write a song about it. A very rare lunar tetrad has been occurring since 2014. The first three total eclipses happened April 15, 2014, October 8, 2014, and April 4, 2015. The final eclipse of the tetrad will occur on September 28, 2015 – which is the first night Huntress will perform upon the ocean, beneath the final Blood Moon of 2015 as we join Motorhead’s Motorboat cruise. Slayer is headlining and I’ll be right there to experience “Reign in Blood.” Fuck. Yes. September 28th will be a very powerful night, and just perhaps the end of the world as the prophecy suggests. The rapture is a comin’!

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.” (Joel 3:2)

Something else trippy about the series of four consecutive lunar eclipses: they ALL coincide with Jewish holidays. Passover and Sukkot 2014, Passover and Sukkot 2015. The numerology of 4, specifically the repeated number 4 is also noteworthy, as in addition to the value of 44 and the Blood Moons of the tetrad – this will be the shortest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting a mere 4 minutes, 44 seconds. 444. This haunts me, I see 444 everywhere I go, all day long, every day. In Barcelona while on tour with Amon Amarth, I met with a tattoo artist at 4:00am and had it inked on my left arm. “Numbers don’t lie. Let’s die.”

I’m super impressed with the musicianship on “Four Blood Moons,” the solos from Eli Santana and Blake Meahl SHRED. Tyler Meahl’s drumming is thunderous and thrashy. It’s a burner and melodic, I had a lot of singing on this track.

Fun fact: Blake Meahl and I wrote the music together and the working title was “9 of Whores!”

Four Blood Moons

Mars, Earth and the Sun
Untie the holy cosmic bond beyond

Children, face the darkness
Gaze into heavens of blood above

Eclipse and shift the night
Comets explode in flight
Monsters riding waves of light

Prophets of doom
Four Blood Moons
Bleeding sky
Murder twilight
Four Blood Moons

Blood spills in Israel
The mystics predicted the change, it’s strange

Children remember this:
The Universe won’t take your shit, lose it

Eclipse and shift the night
Comets explode in flight
Monsters riding waves of light

Prophets of doom
Four Blood Moons
Bleeding sky
Murder twilight
Four Blood Moons

The prophesy of the blood moons
Astrology assigns your death
Numbers don’t lie
Let’s die

Eclipse and shift the night
Comets explode in flight
Monsters riding waves of light

Prophets of doom
Four Blood Moons
Bleeding sky
Murder twilight
Four Blood Moons

Four Blood Moons
Bleeding sky
Four Blood Moons
